Job Description

Location: South San Francisco, CA, United States
Job Identification: 533
Job Schedule: Full time

Myriad Genetics is a trailblazing genetic testing company that has helped millions of patients make critical healthcare decisions. We are the leader of hereditary cancer screening and prenatal screening, innovating every day to empower women and their families to benefit from advanced molecular technologies.

We are looking for a Director of Assay Development to join our R&D team in South San Francisco. The ideal candidate will have deep experience with NGS and broad expertise with the molecular biology of nucleic acids. We are particularly interested in leaders who get joy from efficient scientific inquiry for the sake of building high-throughput molecular assays that can transform personalized medicine. The most appealing candidates will have the judgment and practicality to decide when to build an assay by cobbling together off-the-shelf solutions, as well as the knowledge and ingenuity to build custom home-brew solutions when warranted.

What you'll do:
• Develop prototypes of new molecular assays that can be translated into a high-volume clinical genomics laboratory.
• Devise and test molecular strategies that improve the performance, add new features, and/or lower the cost of existing assays that screen thousands of patients per day
• Work on collaborative project teams with talented experimental scientists, software engineers, automation engineers, and data scientists
• Build a molecular assay development team that can broaden your scope and amplify your productivity
• Evaluate emerging technologies and explore their potential to improve patients' lives by incorporating them into our clinical offerings
• Participate in defining the strategy for future molecular innovation at Myriad
• Communicate your results internally to key stakeholders and externally at conferences and in peer-reviewed literature.

Job Requirements

(feel very encouraged to apply even if not all are met):
• Ph.D. (or equivalent experience) in Molecular Biology, Cell Biology, Genetics, Biochemistry, Biophysics, Chemistry, or a related discipline
• =5 years of experience in molecular diagnostics, biotech, or pharma industry
• Track record of achievement in industry and/or academia, leading large and complicated projects to timely and successful launches
• Fluency with NGS (short- and/or long-read) and mastery of a broad range of molecular biology techniques
• Experience with coding (Python strongly preferred) and comfort with a command-line interface is a huge plus
• Experience leading a team of molecular biologists is preferred
• A sense of humility; impeccable integrity; palpable drive; the competence to be self-sufficient but the strong desire to be part of a supportive team
